We started Level One Neurosurgery so patients could get the kind of care they’d expect at a major academic medical center, with the time and attention of a private practice.
Your care is handled by one experienced neurosurgeon, Peter A. Zahos, MD. He is board certified, has more than 30 years of experience and is a New Jersey Monthly Top Doctor. He explains your diagnosis clearly, starts with non-surgical care when it makes sense and recommends surgery only when you need it.
About Peter A. Zahos, MD
Dr. Zahos handles your care himself, from your first visit on. He reviews your symptoms, your exam and your imaging, then tells you what he finds and why he recommends what he does.
Patients often say he’s calm, honest and takes the time to explain their MRI and their options in plain words.

Dr. Zahos studied at Yale University, earned his medical degree at The George Washington University School of Medicine, and completed his neurosurgery residency and chief residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center.
He has led and taught in neurosurgery departments at respected hospitals and medical schools, including:
- Chairman of Neurosurgery, Cleveland Clinic Florida
- Director of Movement Disorder Surgery & Co-Director of Surgical Neuro-Oncology, JFK Medical Center
- Associate Clinical Professor, UCSF School of Medicine
- Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery, New York Medical College (current)
He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, has completed more than 2,000 cases, has published research and holds multiple U.S. patents in spine and neurosurgical devices and therapies.
