A Board-Certified Spine Surgeon Serving Bergen County

Dr. Zahos is board certified in neurological surgery, and his neurosurgical career began in 1990. In more than 30 years he has completed over 2,000 cases, chaired the Department of Neurosurgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida and led the Division of Neurosurgery at Jacobi Medical Center.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at New York Medical College and a New Jersey Monthly Top Doctor. When an operation is needed, he can use smaller-incision approaches and navigation or robotic guidance for spinal hardware, and he performs cervical and lumbar fusion. He also holds multiple U.S. patents in intervertebral disc repair.

The Same Surgeon From the First Visit On

At our practice, Dr. Zahos handles your care himself. He goes through your symptoms, neurological exam and imaging, then explains what he sees before recommending anything. Non-surgical care comes first when it fits, and coming in for an evaluation is not a commitment to an operation.

A Spine Surgeon Near You in the Middle of Bergen County

Paramus sits near the center of the county. Route 17 and Route 4 meet here and the Garden State Parkway runs through town, so our office at 140 Route 17 North, Suite 255 is a straightforward drive from Hackensack, Teaneck, Englewood and Fort Lee to the east, and from Ridgewood, Fair Lawn, Ramsey and Mahwah to the north and west. Oradell and River Edge are next door.

Spine care is rarely a single appointment. There is the first evaluation, sometimes more imaging, a visit to talk through the plan and, if you have surgery, checkups after it. Keeping those visits close to home makes them easier to fit into a workweek, makes it easier for a family member to come along, and keeps you with one surgeon who already knows your case.

Dr. Zahos brings hospital leadership and teaching experience to a Bergen County office, so you can see a board-certified spine surgeon in Paramus instead of crossing into Manhattan.

Spine Surgery and Evaluations We Offer

Care starts with an evaluation. When treatment needs to go further, these are the options we talk through.

Second Opinion Spine Surgery

If another surgeon has already recommended an operation, Dr. Zahos looks at your imaging, your exam and the proposed plan and tells you whether they line up. It makes sense when you want an independent review before you commit. If nobody has brought up surgery yet, a standard evaluation covers what you need.

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Some problems, like a disc pressing on a single nerve, can be treated through smaller openings with less disturbance to the muscles around the spine. Whether you qualify depends on where the problem is and how many levels it involves. Deformity or instability across several levels usually calls for a different approach.

Spinal Fusion Surgery

Fusion joins two or more vertebrae to steady a segment that moves more than it should. Dr. Zahos recommends it only when your exam and imaging show instability, or a problem that freeing up the nerves alone won’t solve. When there is no instability, other options are usually tried first.

Spine and Nerve Conditions We Treat

We evaluate and treat these spine and nerve conditions in Paramus. Treatment depends on matching the condition to your symptoms and exam, not on the MRI alone.

Herniated Disc Treatment

A herniated disc can irritate a nearby nerve root and cause pain, numbness or weakness along that nerve’s path. Herniated discs can improve with time and non-surgical care. Surgery comes into the conversation when symptoms last or strength is affected.

Spinal Stenosis Treatment

A narrowed spinal canal can make standing and walking uncomfortable, and the discomfort often eases when you sit or lean forward. We pinpoint where the narrowing is and whether it explains your symptoms before discussing decompression.

Sciatica Treatment

Leg pain that begins in the lower back usually traces to one irritated nerve root. Your exam and imaging show which root it is, and whether a disc, stenosis or a slipped vertebra is behind it.

Myelopathy Treatment

Pressure on the spinal cord in the neck can affect fine hand tasks, grip strength and balance. These changes deserve a prompt look, because they can involve more than pain.

Insurance and Paying for Your Visit

What you pay for a spine visit or surgery depends on your plan. Before you come in, our team can go over your benefits with you and explain what to expect, before your visit.
